It's official: Gwyneth Paltrow is returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The Iron Man star will reprise her role as Pepper Potts, Tony Stark's on-again-off-again love interest, in Spider-Man: Homecoming. An official cast list released by Sony confirms Paltrow's involvement in the film.

Paltrow's continued involvement in the MCU has been up in the air for quite some time, as her contract with Marvel Studios was reportedly fulfilled. Her character was notably absent from Avengers: Age of Ultron and Captain America: Civil War, both of which featured the Avengers and their respective ensembles. In Civil War, she was said to have broken up with Tony Stark, leading some to speculate that she wouldn't appear again in the MCU. However, her part in Spider-Man: Homecoming proves otherwise, though it is unclear how large of a role she'll have.

Paltrow isn't the only surprise star in Spider-Man: HomecomingRequiem for a Dream star Jennifer Connelly will also stop by the MCU. The cast list credits Connelly as "Karen/Suit Lady," which suggests she'll have a small role in Spider-Man, though that could simply be a ruse or red herring. The actress is no stranger to comic book adaptations, having appeared in Ang Lee’s Hulk; she is also slated to star in James Cameron’s Alita: Battle Angel adaptation and TNT's Snowpiercer TV series. She is particularly well known for her role in the cult classic film Labyrinth.

The cast list also provides a few additional details about the upcoming movie. For instance, Marvel Comics legend Stan Lee -- who has appeared in just about every Marvel film to date -- will play a character called "Gary." Further, two Shockers are listed, with Logan Marshall-Green playing Jackson Brice, or Shocker #1, and Bokeem Woodbine starring as Herman Schultz, aka Shocker #2.
