Actor William G. "Bill" Nunn III, who played Robbie Robertson in director Sam Raimi's "Spider-Man" trilogy, died Saturday in his hometown of Pittsburgh of undisclosed causes. He was 62.
A late bloomer when it came to acting, the 1976 graduate of Morehouse College in Atlanta landed his first role in fellow alum Spike Lee's 1988 musical comedy drama "School Daze," based on the filmmaker's experiences at the historically black institution. Nunn went on to star in three other Lee films: "Do the Right Thing," "He Got Game" and "Mo' Better Blues."
Comic book fans will remember Nunn for his portrayal of Daily Bugle editor Robbie Robertson in 2002's "Spider-Man" and its two sequels.
Lee paid tribute to Nunn on Instagram, writing. "My Dear Friend, My Dear Morehouse Brother- Da Great Actor Bill Nunn As Most Of You Know Him As Radio Raheem Passed Away This Morning In His Hometown Of Pittsburgh. Long Live Bill NUNN. RADIO RAHEEM Is Now RESTING IN POWER. RADIO RAHEEM WILL ALWAYS BE FIGHTING DA POWERS DAT BE. MAY GOD WATCH OVER BILL NUNN."
He followed that with a longer tribute, and in image of the Nike Air Revolution sneakers Nunn made famous in "Do the Right Thing."
