Warner Bros. is developing a “Speedy Gonzales” animated movie, based on the classic cartoon mouse (the other one) from the studio’s “Looney Tunes” cartoons, where he first appeared in 1955.
According to Tracking Board, Dylan Sellers (“Southpaw”) is producing the movie through his Rivers Edge Films, alongside Eugenio Derbez of 3Pas Studios and Jesse Ehrman (“This Is Where I Leave You”) at Warner Bros. The movie will reportedly feature an updated version of Speedy Gonzales, likely in response to recent criticisms of the character, for its dated portrayal of the Mexican stereotype.
Prior to this incarnation of the “Speedy Gonzales” film, New Line tried to get a movie off the ground with George Lopez attached to star.
There are no casting announcements for the pic as of yet, but one can only hope that Fred Armisen would reprise the character, which he played on Cartoon Network’s “The Looney Tunes Show” a couple years back.
“Speedy Gonzales” hasn’t been given a release date.
