Variety reports actress Sophie Cookson has been cast as the female lead in Matthew Vaughn’s upcoming adaptation of Mark Millar and Dave Gibbons’ “The Secret Service” comic book series. Cookson joins a cast that includes Taron Egerton as Gary, Colin Firth as super spy Jack London and Samuel L. Jackson as the movie’s primary villain. Cookson, much like Egerton, is a relative unknown, and “The Secret Service” will be her first feature film. Rumors had previously put Emma Watson or Bella Heathcote in the role of “The Secret Service’s” leading lady, with the slim possibility that singer/songwriter Taylor Swift might land the role.

“The Secret Service” follows super-spy Jack London as he takes his working-class nephew Gary under his wing, training him to become an espionage expert. The duo ends up embroiled in a plot involving kidnapped celebrities and the murder of an entire town.

Directed by Vaughn, “The Secret Service” is scheduled for a November 14, 2014 release.
