Sony Pictures has purchased a pitch that will see Will Ferrell tackle some truly Shakespearean material -- in his own unique way, of course.

According to Variety, the untitled comedy comes from an original idea developed by the production company Mosaic. The film will focus on the intense behind-the-scenes competition at a Shakespearean theater company.

David Guion and Michael Handelman (Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb, Dinner For Schmucks) will handle screenwriting duties.

In addition to starring in this comedy, Ferrell has a number of producing projects lined up alongside frequent collaborator Adam McKay. The duo is producing an animated Manimal feature film for Sony as well as a Flintstones revival -- also animated -- at Warner Bros.
