The long-gestating "Sons of Anarchy" spinoff is finally coming into fruition, as FX has announced that its begun active script development on the project, now titled "Mayans MC." The project is co-created by "Sons of Anarchy" creator Kurt Sutter and indie filmmaker Elgin James ("Little Birds").
According to Variety, James is set to pen the pilot script, which is being described as a "dark, visceral family drama that takes a new look at the most American of icons, the 1% outlaw, this time reflected through a Latino lens." Sutter is producing the project for Fox 21 Television Studios and FX Productions.
The titular Mayans were recurring characters on "Sons of Anarchy," which brought in huge numbers for FX as its highest-rated drama.
After "Sons of Anarchy's" seven-year run, Sutter went on to create "The Bastard Executioner," which had been cancelled after one season.
