The crow flies straight onto television sets in just a few short weeks, when Sons of Anarchy returns for its sixth and (supposedly) penultimate season. Deadline reports an official season premiere date for the FX biker series: Sept. 10.

A press release announcing the premiere date also comes equipped with some intriguing new details about what to expect from Sons' sixth season:

Having framed Clay for the murder of Damon Pope, Season Six begins with Jax’s leadership uncontested, but his family life suffering from his single-minded pursuit of John Teller’s vision. Jax must find a way to keep Tara from going to prison for conspiracy to commit murder while rebuilding his club and breaking from the cycle of violence and greed that ultimately led to his best friend’s death.

Sounds like Opie is still very much on Jax's mind in Season 6, and that Tara's fate isn't fully resolved yet, either. The slightest mention of Clay means Kurt Sutter and his team want to keep SAMCRO's ex-president's story under wraps — expect big things there.

In related news, Sons is getting an interesting new guest star: Peter Weller, best known as the star of RoboCop and Buckaroo Banzai. Weller is already familiar with the Sons universe, having directed numerous episodes of the series. The Hollywood Reporter says he'll make his debut in front of the camera as "a former cop who works at the Stockton port and has a run-in with the SAMCRO motorcycle club."
