The live action adaptation of Joe Casey and Chris Burnham's Image Comics one-shot "Officer Downe" has found its leading mustache.

Deadline has the word that "Sons of Anarchy" vet Kim Coates has signed on to play the lead in the ultra-violent story. This is a rare leading part for the veteran TV and film actor who has played tough guys in everything from "Prison Break" to "Smallville."

Announced earlier this month, the film will be directed by former Slipknot member M. Shawn Crahan via production company Living Out Loud Films. "Crank" producers Mark Neveldine and Skip Williamson are also involved and will pen the script alongside Casey and Cole Payne.

Originally published in 2010, "Officer Downe" tells the story of an unkillable police officer on a vendetta to take down a city of criminals in the most gonzo fashion possible. The graphic novel has been reprinted in a deluxe hardcover format.
