COOL COMIC THINGS

Remember when the Avengers weren’t icons? Remember that? It was a long time ago, but for a time, it DID exist, and it was pretty cool. Where the Avengers icon status comes into play is with their interactions with each other. Since they have been so ingrained in our mind, when their interactions do not go a certain way, it seems off to us. To wit, the soap operatic moments of Chuck Austen’s Avengers – the Avengers suddenly, out of nowhere, began treating each other like they didn’t know each other for years. It was weird.

However, early on, that same treatment was interesting – because we DIDN’T know these characters and they DIDN’T know each other really well.

So remember how we would have Hawkeye questioning Captain America’s leadership?

Hawkeye (then Hercules) fawning over Scarlet Witch, who was, in turn, fawning over Captain America.

Quicksilver being mad at everyone and trying to protect his sister (okay, this part has stayed the same, at least…hehe).

Captain America trying to get SHIELD to hire him (which was one of the odder plotlines of the Silver Age – Captain America sitting by the phone, just waiting for SHIELD to call him and ask him to join them).

I’m not saying we SHOULD recreate these moments in present comics today…I’m just saying that they were really cool while we had them.

COVER HOMAGE

On cool point to the first person who can tell me which cover this Amazing Spider-Man cover is homaging!

SNARK FREE CHALLENGE

Who would win a breakdancing contest – Tim Drake or Dick Grayson?

SNARK FREE COVER THEME GAME

Here’s the game. I show three covers. They all have something in common, whether it be a character, locale, creator, SOMEthing. And it isn’t something obvious like “They all have prices!” “They all have logos!” “They all feature a man!” etc.

One cool point to the person who first guesses correctly!
