Snark Free Corner for 8/27

Welcome to the latest installment of your breath of snark free air!

Enjoy!

COOL COMIC THINGS

A cool comic thing is the old hosts that comics like House of Mystery or Tales From the Crypt used to use.

This is an old time comic book tradition that probably saw its end when comics ceased to be aimed at a younger audience, as I suppose it didn’t seem all that mature to have weird characters introducing stories, but boy, was it fun while it lasted!

DC had, at the House of Mystery and the House of Secrets, the two brothers, Cain and Abel…

They were actually pretty late to the party, not being added to the books until the late 60s, but boy, were they cool.

And Neil Gaiman just made them even COOLER in the pages of Sandman.

Over at Warren, you had Uncle Eerie and Uncle Creepy (Uncle Creepy is seen here)…

And of course, EC’s Tales From the Crypt had the Cryptkeeper, made famous by his use on the HBO television series based on the comic book.

Who was YOUR favorite comic book host?

COVER THEME GAME

As always, here is the game. I show three covers. They all have something in common, whether it be a character, a trait all three characters share, locale, creator, SOMEthing. And it isn’t something obvious like “They all have prices!” “They all have logos!” “They all feature a man!” etc.

In addition, please note that you must have some familiarity with comic book history to correctly guess these comics. You cannot guess the connective theme just by looking at the covers solely, you must have some knowledge beyond just the covers.

Good luck! A cool point to the first person to figure it out!

Who is Superman’s greatest enemy outside of Luthor and Brainiac?

THE COVER GAME

This week’s game is as follows…

Quite simply, find me a cover with the original Mongul on it.

Floating heads don’t count!

For example (and you can’t use these two, or the Annual from above), these DC Comics Presents covers from his first and second appearances…

Remember, only one cover per commenter!

Good luck!
