Snark Free Corner for 3/12

by  in Comic News Comment

Welcome to the latest installment of your breath of snark free air!

Enjoy!

COOL COMIC PARAPHERNALIA

Thor has taught us the coolness of having a magic hammer, but few can match the coolness of a magic CROWBAR!!

And yet that is exactly the case with The Wrecker, who was a criminal who would, after looting someone’s place, use a crowbar to wreck the place (natch) and then leave a crowbar at the scene.

However, he accidentally chose to loot an apartment where Karnilla was waiting for Loki, so she could give him some powers to fight Thor. Karnilla thought Wrecker was Loki, so gave HIM the powers, and the enchantment came from his magic crowbar!

The enchantment made him strong enough to take on Thor himself!

Later on, The Wrecker had three acquaintances (read as prison mates) who broke free with him, and when he got his crowbar, they all grasped it when it got struck by lightning, giving them ALL superpowers!!

They became The Wrecking Crew!

All due to a magic crowbar.

Awesome.

COVER THEME GAME

As always, here is the game. I show three covers. They all have something in common, whether it be a character, a trait all three characters share, locale, creator, SOMEthing. And it isn’t something obvious like “They all have prices!” “They all have logos!” “They all feature a man!” etc.

In addition, please note that you must have some familiarity with comic book history to correctly guess these comics. You cannot guess the connective theme just by looking at the covers solely, you must have some knowledge beyond just the covers.

Good luck! This one is a BIT tougher than usual, I think, so TWO cool points to the first one who figures it out!

SNARK FREE CHALLENGE

I asked this one before, but that was with Marvel characters. DC has more characters who are just athletes, so this should be a bit easier, but perhaps difficult to choose ONLY five.

So here goes – Make up the best basketball team you could possibly make up of DC characters without superpowers (if their powers are in their suits, they can play, so long as you think they’d be good enough without their suits – like Booster Gold, who was a great athlete withOUT the suit), like Batman, Nightwing, Green Arrow, etc.

COVER HOMAGE

Here’s how this one works.

I give you a cover, and you have to tell me a comic cover that homages this cover.

You get a cool point for each cover (one cool point per commenter, so one single commenter can’t just blow it all in one fell swoop), with double the cool points for any cover homage from four on
