As revealed during this year's Comic-Con International in San Diego, Smallville star Tom Welling will appear on Lucifer for the Vertigo Comics-based series' third season, marking the actors return (sort of) to the world of DCTV. Now, FOX has debuted (via Entertainment Weekly) our first look at Welling's Lucifer character as he'll appear in the Season 3 premiere episode.

Welling is set to play a character named Marcus Pierce. He's described by the site as an "accomplished" police lieutenant who "strikes up a potential romance with Decker [Lauren German], much to Lucifer’s [Tom Ellis] chagrin." The character will reportedly be a foil to both established Lucifer characters.

Take a look at Welling's Marcus Pierce below.

“When Decker first meets Marcus Pierce, he is very much someone that rubs her the wrong way, because he’s very much a no-nonsense, calling-it-like-it-is guy, and he’s not much for social mores, if you will,” co-showrunner Joe Henderson teased. “But what’s interesting is he also represents a lot of truth and justice and very much a lot of the things that draw Chloe to the side of law. So Pierce is very much the exact opposite of Lucifer, but also very similar, and so that duality is a big reason for them to start coming together.”

Welling told the site, "I definitely didn’t want to play Clark Kent again...The great thing about Clark is he didn’t know who he was and he didn’t know what he was supposed to do with what he had and his abilities. This character very much knows what he’s capable of and knows what he wants to do and knows how to do it, so as much fun as that is to play, it wasn’t necessarily because of Clark that I chose this character. It was so many more factors than just, ‘I don’t want play Clark again,’ but I’d be lying if I was saying that I do not enjoy playing something very different for sure.”
