Fox has finally found its Ichabod Crane.
Deadline reports that Salmon Fishing in the Yemen actor Tom Mison has joined the ranks of the new Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci Sleepy Hollow pilot as Crane. This is his first major leading role, although he has had some TV experience thanks to parts in Parade’s End, Lost in Austen and The Amazing Mrs. Pritchard.
Sleepy Hollow will feature time travel, with Ichabod being described in the script as “a captain in the Revolutionary War who has been to hell and back. The former history professor finds himself catapulted to present day Sleepy Hollow, where he’s indicted for the murder of a police officer and forced to prove not only his innocence but make a wary detective believe he’s a traveler from the 18th century.”
Meanwhile, two other cast members have already joined the project. Orlando Jones will play Lieutenant Frank Williams, a present-day detective sent to Sleepy Hollow to investigate a double homicide. Katia Winter, a Dexter alum, will portray Ichabod Crane’s wife in the 18th century.
Washington Irving’s 1820 short story “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” has had many incarnations, but it most memorably was adapted by Disney in 1949 as an animated feature (part of The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad), and then by Tim Burton in 1999 as a live-action film. Len Wiseman will direct and executive produce the pilot.
