Twenty-three seems to be a particularly lucky number for James Bond, Eon Productions, MGM, Sony and Columbia Pictures.
Skyfall, the 23rd Bond movie, has just surpassed the $1 billion mark worldwide, according to The Hollywood Reporter. That makes it not only the most successful Bond movie in the franchise’s five decades, but also Sony’s highest-grossing movie ever (not adjusting for inflation on either account). It also was the first movie to make more than 100 million pounds in England. Skyland is Daniel Craig’s third outing as Bond, he’s joined by Judie Dench, Javier Bardem and Ralph Fiennes. Sam Mendes directed.
Skyfall is the third movie to surpass the billion-dollar mark this year, following The Avengers and The Dark Knight Rises. Prior to 2012, only 11 movies had earned so much money.
