Variety reports that director Quentin Tarantino filmed a scene in the final segment of the Frank Miller adaptation, featuring Clive Owen, Benicio Del Toro and Brittany Murphy, and was paid exactly $1 for his services. Tarantino went to Austin, Texas, to shoot the scene and because he wanted to sample the digital filmmaking techniques Rodriguez was using.
Amidst talks of the franchise being done for, Lions Gate revealed that their September 7th release of “The Punisher” on DVD will include a limited edition comic book-style “chase cover.” These discs will be limited to 10,000 copies and will be distributed randomly at retail. All of the “Punisher” discs will come packaged with a 28-page prequel comic, written by Garth Ennis and illustrated by Tim Bradsheet, pointing the way to the first scene in the film.
The cult favorite property won’t die, according to Sci Fi Wire. Comic book writer Andrew Foley will be helming a four-color adventure based on the cable series, which will then be released online and in print. This news comes alongside word of a role playing game under development and a prequel film as well.
According to Cinescape, “before the end of next month, ‘SPIDER-MAN 2’ will be formatted and be playing on IMAX theaters screens … sources tell us that the ‘SPIDER-MAN 2’ IMAX run will follow a release format similar to last summer’s IMAX presentation of ‘THE MATRIX RELOADED’ three to four weeks after the June 30 premiere of ‘SPIDER-MAN 2,’ the movie will begin its run on IMAX DMR screens. This would place the IMAX release of the picture on either the 16th or the 23rd of July. This unexpected move may be at the expense of rival studio Warner Bros., which has plans to release an IMAX DMR version of ‘CATWOMAN’ on July 23. We’ve been told that already several IMAX equipped theaters, which had earlier committed to show CATWOMAN , are dropping their plans and will instead show ‘SPIDER-MAN 2’ that weekend. Such a move will surely lower the grosses for ‘CATWOMAN,’ which we are told will carry the first trailer for next summer’s highly anticipated release of ‘BATMAN BEGINS.'”
