Following years of promises and delays, the long-awaited sequel to 2005’s Sin City will at last begin filming in November. So says star Rosario Dawson, who tells MTV News, “I’m not sure if I’m supposed to say that, but I’m going to say November, I’m going to be honest and put it out there. It’s very soon. Very excited.”
Scheduled for release on Oct. 4, 2013, Sin City: A Dame to Kill For reunites co-directors Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller for a film based in part on the second volume of Miller’s acclaimed Dark Horse crime comic, as well as the short story “Just Another Saturday Night” and at least one new segment “The Long, Bad Night.”
However, Dawson, who only recently confirmed she’ll reprise her role as the Uzi-wielding Gail, suggests readers of the original comic may be in for a surprise. “It’s sort of a prequel to the Sin City we’ve already watched, so you’ll understand the references we were making in that one,” says the actress, who hasn’t read the final script but knows the source material. “The new face thing, all of that interesting stuff. You might have to figure out which one’s me at some point. We’re going to play with that.”
In Miller’s 1993 miniseries, it’s Dwight McCarthy — the photographer played in the first film by Clive Owen — not Gail who undergoes reconstructive surgery after suffering near-fatal gunshot wounds. Whether Rodriguez & Co. are changing up the plot or Dawson is merely being cryptic remains to be seen.
