Simon Pegg will co-write Star Trek 3 with television producer Doug Jung, Deadline reports.

The news comes following the departure of franchise writer and producer Roberto Orci, who was poised to make his directorial debut on the Paramount Pictures sequel. He was replaced last month by Fast & Furious 6 director Justin Lin, and confirmed shortly thereafter that he's no longer co-writing the sequel to 2013's Star Trek Into Darkness. Orci remains as an executive producer.

Pegg, who portrays Chief Engineer Montgomery Scott in the rebooted space opera, is certainly no stranger to screenwriting, having collaborated with director Edgar Wright on their Cornetto trilogy (Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz and The World's End), and with Nick Frost on Paul.

Jung is best known as the creator of the TNT drama Dark Blue and the writer of 2003 crime film Confidence.

Star Trek 3 opens July 8, 2016.
