Genre film veteran Simon Kinberg has joined 20th Century Fox‘s in-development “Fantastic Four” reboot as both a writer and producer, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Kinberg joins Matthew Vaughn as a fellow “Fantastic Four” producer, and both Kinberg and Vaughn have worked together previously on the other Marvel Comics franchise under Fox’s live-action feature film control, the X-Men. Vaughn directed and co-wrote 2011’s “X-Men: First Class” and Kinberg served as a producer; Kinberg and Vaughn are both producers of next summer’s “X-Men: Days of Future Past,” which has a script by Kinberg.

A “Fantastic Four” reboot has been in the works at Fox since 2009, with several screenwriters working on previous drafts. “Chronicle’s” Josh Trank remains on tap to direct.

Past writing and co-writing credits by Kinberg include 2009’s “Sherlock Holmes,” 2005’s “Mr. and Mrs. Smith” and 2006’s critically maligned “X-Men: The Last Stand.” Fox released two previous films based on the Fantastic Four, Marvel’s first Silver Age superhero team, in 2005 and 2007.
