Most ways you look at it, Catwoman is one of Batman's greatest foes. She's been menacing the Dark Knight as long as the Joker, and her ambiguous nature means that she's appeared in a ton of solo books, spin-offs, and other media. Her look is iconic, but seems to lend itself to many different interpretations, which is what you get in the new Sideshow Catwoman statue.

The new statue is designed by artist Stanley Lau, a Hong Kong artist and designer who does work under the handle "Artgerm." You may know his work from covers of DC comics (he did a bunch of "Batgirl," including a number of iconic Stephanie Brown covers). If you're a gamer, you've seen his work in the character designs for "Street Fighter" and "Darkstalkers." The Sideshow team seems genuinely thrilled to have him, praising Lau's "bold visual style" in its announcement.

The statue is unique in that it is a 1:5 scale, slightly larger than your average 1:6 scale statue.  It's also unique because of the costume design. Though it's not specifically based on any one Catwoman costume, the goggles, dark lipstick, and full-body catsuit are somewhat reminiscent of the costume she had in "Batman: A Telltale Game Series." The skirt-like tunic is definitely a new touch though. The detail work is incredible; just look at the realistic seams and wrinkles in the different fabrics and leather that are supposed to make up her costume.

You'll also take note of the pose.  Lau captures the body language of one of the more playful comic book villains well, but he also manages to intimate a feline quality, especially in the way her trademark whip looks sort of like a cat's tail.

This is meant to be the first in a series of statues designed by Lau. The 1:5 Catwoman statue will cost you $350 and is available for pre-order on Thursday March 9, 2017.
