Although there’s been a steady stream of photos from the Illinois sets of Man of Steel, until the past few days they’ve been largely shots of buildings and vehicles, or taken from such a distance that they don’t reveal much of anything.
Last week, however, we got our first glimpse Amy Adams as Lois Lane, which looked … pretty much like Amy Adams in any other role. And now, courtesy of the Superman: Man of Steel Facebook group, we get peeks of what’s almost certainly star Henry Cavill as Superman at the Kent farm, and Michael Shannon as General Zod — again, at the Kent farm — wearing motion-capture sensors. Naturally, that means the Kryptonian criminal’s costume probably won’t look much like the chest hair-revealing mesh-and-vinyl suit famously worn by Terrence Stamp in Superman and Superman II. Not that anyone was really expecting that, mind you. But it may mean Zod’s outfit will be dynamic and, possibly, very “alien.”
It’s also worth noting that Superman’s cape doesn’t bear the traditional “S” emblem — and, at least according to a caption on the Facebook page, the suit may not include red trunks. Questions remained on that point after the release earlier this month of the first official still from the Zack Snyder film.
In addition to those photos, IGN.com also has an impressive shot of the crater in a cornfield where the infant Kal-El’s rocket crashed.
Man of Steel stars Henry Cavill as Superman, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Michael Shannon as General Zod, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Kevin Costner as Jonathan Kent, Julia Ormond as Lara Lor-Van, Russell Crowe as Jor-El, Laurence Fishburne as Perry White, Antje Traue as Faora, Harry Lennix as General Swanwick and Christopher Meloni as Col. Hardy. The film opens June 14, 2013.
