"Night at the Museum's" Shawn Levy is set to direct and produce a remake of the 1984 sci-fi romance "Starman" for Columbia Pictures.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Arash Amel ("Grace of Monaco") is in place to write the script. Michael Douglas, who produced the original, will return for the remake.

Directed by John Carpenter, "Starman" starred Jeff Bridges as an alien who crash-lands on Earth, and assumes the form of the husband of a widowed woman (Karen Allen). The alien coerces the woman to take him to a site where he can rendezvous with his own kind, and en route the two fall in love. Bridges earned an Oscar nomination for his performance in the film.

In addition to the "Night at the Museum" films, Levy has directed "Real Steel," "This is Where I Leave You" and "Date Night."
