Based on the bestselling fantasy novels by Terry Brooks, the first season of The Shannara Chronicles largely followed the events of The Elfstones of Shannara, centering on on Wil (Austin Butler), Amberle (Poppy Drayton), Eretria (Evana Baquero) and their quest to stop an army of demons from destroying the Four Lands. The second season will pick up one year after the chaotic events of the Season One finale, and focus on the fallout from the re-emergence of magic in the Four Lands and the fight against a new organization called the Crimson, intent on hunting down magic users.

Although MTV and Spike are both Viacom properties, the move of The Shannara Chronicles still comes as somewhat of a surprise, given the success of the first season, and the order of a second season last year by MTV. Spike will present the entire first season beginning July 29, with episodes airing each week following the new original series The Mist.

Created by Al Gough and Miles Millar (Smallville), The Shannara Chronicles stars Austin Butler, Evana Baquero, Manu Bennet, Aaron Jakubenko,  and Marcus Vanco alongside new cast members Vanessa Morgan, Malese Jow, Gentry White, Caroline Chikezie and Desmond Chiam.
