Fox has just given a 13 episode series order to a new science fiction-based dramedy from "Family Guy" creator Seth MacFarlane.

According to Deadline, the series will be set 300 years in the future and will follow the adventures of the Orville, "a not-so-top-of-the-line exploratory ship in Earth’s interstellar Fleet." The crew will face challenges both on and off the ship, as "this motley crew of space explorers will boldly go where no comedic drama has gone before."

This is MacFarlane's first series order for a scripted drama on Fox. His previous television projects include animated shows like "American Dad," "Family Guy,""Blunt Talk," and "The Cleveland Show."

MacFarlane commented on the news saying, "I’ve wanted to do something like this show ever since I was a kid, and the timing finally feels right." The series is planned to begin filming this fall, with a projected air date of 2017/2018.
