The conclusion of "Sense8" Season 1 left the sensates in a dangerous place. After being kidnapped by Whispers and held in his facility, Riley was able to escape with Will's help, but not before Will made eye contact with Whispers himself -- which means that now Whispers can walk in and out of Will's consciousness, just like the members of his cluster can. As Will and Riley made their great escape in a boat, he took enough sedatives to knock himself out, and that's where the first season drew to an end.

The trailer for "Sense8: A Christmas Special" finds the sensates in a happier place -- at least for a little while. The members of the cluster, who are now aware of who and what they are, have begun to really form bonds with one another. This seems to help several individual members of the cluster in particular, like Sun, who is still and prison; Will, who won't make it home for the holidays because he's afraid to put others in danger; and Wolfgang, who is struggling in the aftermath of killing his uncle.

Of course, that sense of calm doesn't last too long. Whispers is hot on their trail, especially now that he has a direct line to the cluster through Will's perspective. As Will and Riley enjoy a romantic evening together, he shows up to wish them a Merry Christmas and reminds Will that he'll always be there now. Meanwhile, Wolfgang must escape from armed gunmen, who are likely after him in retaliation for the murders he committed. However, he's got an army of his own on his side: the other members of his cluster.

Though the trailer picks up where the show left off, there's definitely a sense of the holidays hanging in the air. A cover of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah" plays over the video, while Christmas lights and snow twinkle in the background. There also appears to be a big emphasis on family. "This is a time to come together," the trailer reads between clips. "Now is the time to connect." However, it's unclear just how deeply the holiday special will impact the events of Season 2 when it picks up in May.

Starring Tuppence Middleton, Brian J. Smith, Doona Bae, Jamie Clayton, Toby Onwumere, Miguel Ángel Silvestre, Tina Desai and Max Riemelt, the two-hour "Sense8: A Christmas Special" arrives on December 23, while Season 2 premieres on May 5.
