Send Us Your Shelf Porn!

by  in Comic News Comment

Happy Thanksgiving and welcome once again to Shelf Porn, where a comic fan invites us over to feast on pictures of their comics. Today’s Shelf Porn comes from Rod, who already gave thanks for his awesome comics room in October (as he is Canadian). Rod was kind enough to show us his graphic novels, statues and his secret door/room.

If you’d like to contribute to Shelf Porn, it’s easy — just send your photos and write-up to jkparkin@yahoo.com.

And now let’s hear from Rod …

*****

Hi gang… I’m Rod, from up in Canada and I’m a big fan of the shelf porn column so I thought I’d share my comic room.

So this first shot is the view from walking in the room. At first glance you can see a custom angled desk (made by me!) which has my computer system with 3 monitors, plus LCD tv (also hooked up as a computer monitor/TV). The room is essentially completely lined with bookshelves except for this desk area. Although I call it my ‘office’ the number one rule is- no work to be done in this room!

Statues above computer monitors- the wonder woman is based on Adam Hughes design

One of my favorite items (besides the comics and statues) is my Humanscale freedom chair. Super comfortable for long hours at the computer.

View to the right of my desk/monitors. Complete collection of Adam Hughes/Mark Brooks Women of Marvel statues (with one Lara Croft thrown in for good measure)

Working around the room to the right, here is a wall of built in bookshelves containing a selection of my trades and hardcovers…no room for omnibuses or absolutes because the shelves are fixed in height! This wall contains a secret….

A secret room! The bookshelves have a false wall where a set of the shelves are on a custom hinge, which is released by a ‘secret’ book. The room is mainly storage but also has a few racks for some of my more non-displayable books!

Continuing around the room, here is view of my two sitting chairs…the burgundy one has a full massager, heat, with a built in fridge for a few beverages! The arm chair is directly across from the mounted flat panel tv, and where I do some of my movie and tv watching, surrounded by my treasures! The room has full 5.1 wired in sound (you can see the rear right speaker just behind the arm chair) To the right, is two white bookshelves, which I have modified with shelves between the two units, so that it looks like another custom unit. While it looks tight, there is about two feet of space behind the burgundy chair to access the shelves… on the right side, I do have to move the wicker chair to get at the lower shelves so I try to put items there that I don’t need to get at often

Directly across from entrance to room. The white door on the left opens into the room and covers off the entrance to a walk in closet, with a few more items and storage. Its kind of a second secret room, as with this door shut you can’t tell at all that there’s a walkin closet there… I built a special panel and painted it blue to cover off the door frame of the walkin door… quite pleased with the way it turned out. When people come over, I tell them there is a secret room, then they find this but of course they never find the one behind the bookshelf (and I never tell them!)

View with the comic room door shut, revealing the opening to the walk-in closet. To the right, a full bathroom attached directly to the comic room.

Coming full circle, an adjustable shelf with my more deluxe, oversized items. The strange purple thing in the upper right is the screen saver on my computer (displayed on my lcd).

Well thanks for taking the time to have a look… overall it’s a compact room but fairly well organized with all my treasures/junk! Hopefully doesn’t appear too cluttered, I try to keep it neat but there’s always room for improvement.

Various other close ups of certain items:

Sideshow Iron Man with interchangeable head and arms! Although I’m Canadian I do love this piece, including the US flag!
