Send us your Shelf Porn!

Hello and welcome once again to Send us your Shelf Porn! Today’s collection comes from John Hurley in sunny Tucson, Arizona, who has done some impressive things with his action figures and comic books.

If you’d like to show the world your collection, we can help! Just send me your write-up and some decent-sized jpgs of your collection, and I’ll take it from there. And now let’s hear from John …

People who walk into my den really don’t know where to look first. I definitely don’t have much “growing room” left, and unfortunately due to lack of wall space I’ve had to put away some great posters. (The George Perez hero-packed Crisis on Infinite Earths, the Mike Grell Green Arrow, a Sandman or two, and a Keith Giffen Legion of Super-heroes come to mind.) As is probably evident, the room is wall-to-wall and floor-to-ceiling comic boxes and shelves–with my desk taking up a sizeable chunk of floor space, too. Even the closet is filled with boxes–as well as a rather out-of-place collection of Battlestar Galactica memorabilia.

Comics serve as backgrounds for all my action figures, statues, etc., and some of the first comics I ever bought can be spotted here and there: Justice League of America 111 & 112, Superman 276, Superman Family 166 & 167, and Flash 229. (Ok, I’m lying. The first comics I actually bought were Archie, Richie Rich, Casper, Wendy the Good Little Witch, Little Dot and the like, but I usually pretend that phase of my life never happened–and I’ve since eliminated all evidence of ever having such comics in my possession. Well, with the exception of that one Baby Huey where…… never mind.)

Sorry I didn’t dust for these photos. Needless to say, cleaning my den is a monumental chore and only gets done a handful of times every year. The older I get, the more I seem to curse myself for ever starting this collection. If I’d just seen a shrink before I ordered that first action figure, I’d have saved a lot of money and a lot of time spent on dusting. Water under the bridge, I guess.
