WARNING: The following contains spoilers for the Season Seven premiere of "The Walking Dead" ... although you've undoubtedly already watched the episode, or at least read about it.

If you're among the many fans still reeling -- or at least quietly sobbing in the corner -- after the events of the (ahem) eye-popping season seven premiere of "The Walking Dead," you'll probably think it's far too soon see this. But don't blame us, blame series Executive Producer Greg Nicotero.

The director of Sunday's gut-wrenching episode, Nicotero is perhaps better known as the hit drama's special effects makeup supervisor. It's in that capacity that he's shared photos of actor Steven Yeun's gruesome makeup test, complete with head gash, bulging eye and, of course, blood.

"Greatest make up fx team around!" Nicotero wrote. After watching the season premiere, and looking at these photos, it's hard to argue with him.

Yeun's fan-favorite Glenn met his end Sunday, alongside Michael Cudlitz's Abraham, at the hands of Negan and his trusty bat Lucille. “I think Glenn died in a very Glenn way,” Yeun said in an interview published shortly after the episode aired. “Still not thinking about himself. It’s appropriate that he ends there, and it’s also appropriate that he kind of puts those last words out there as a final ‘look out for each other.’”

Airing Sundays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on AMC, "The Walking Dead" stars Andrew Lincoln, Norman Reedus, Lauren Cohan, Chandler Riggs, Danai Gurira, Melissa McBride, Lennie James, Sonequa Martin-Green and Jeffrey Dean Morgan.

Blood added. Greatest make up fx team around!
