Do you like scary TV shows? MTV does. After the success of its version of Teen Wolf, which returned for a second season last night, the network is looking to add another film franchise to its lineup: Scream. The Hollywood Reporter confirmed the rumors by finding out that former MTV executives will be executive producing the series. They’re still searching for a head writer, and casting will follow, but no word has been given on how involved Wes Craven and Kevin Williamson will be, if at all.
Director Craven and writer Williamson first teamed up on the Scream franchise in 1996 for a slasher film that not only referenced the horror genre and made a boatload of money but also spawned a series of copycats. The film also produced three sequels, the fourth of which came out just last year and re-teamed Craven and Williamson after the writer didn’t work on the third installment.
The films follow the misadventures of Sydney Prescott (Neve Campbell) who is continually hounded by people in the now infamous white mask trying to murder her, usually for the actions of her mother.
