Fox has picked up the sci-fi spec script "Ascension" with "Kingsman: The Secret Service" director Matthew Vaughn intended as producer, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Penned by newcomer Shannon Triplet, "Ascension" will be a disaster movie that takes place in a world that is slowly losing gravity.

Vaughn has helmed several genre films as director, including "Stardust," "X-Men: First Class" and "Kick-Ass." He will also direct the upcoming film "I am Pilgrim," a foray into the spy genre. Currently, he is developing and producing "Flash Gordon." He has also been rumored to be part of the "Kingsman" sequel.

Triplet's past work includes "Battleship," on which she was an assistant visual FX coordinator, and "Godzilla," which she associate produced. The deal for her "Ascension" script is said to be in the mid to high six figures.
