Saturday Shelf Porn | Maximum Marvel mini busts, part 2

by  in Comic News Comment

Hello and welcome to Shelf Porn, our weekly look at one fan’s collection. Today we’re featuring a return engagement to the home of Chad Holloway in Wisconsin, who tells us that since the last time we featured his shelves, “my collection has changed dramatically and is now more prominently displayed.”

If you’d like to see your collection featured here, you can find instructions at the end of this post.

And now here is Chad …

My name is Chad Holloway, and I’m a collector from Reedsburg, WI. I collect primarily Bowen Design mini-busts and full statues, but I also collect various smalls. I’ve recently ventured into the DC New 52, but before that I was mainly a Marvel guy. I’m a big fan of the X-Men, especially the villains. I’m also big on the Avengers and Alpha Flight.

My collection started back in 2007 or so when I decided to by a Mr. Sinister MB for $40.00 from my local comic shop. Little did I know the addiction it would kick off. Among my favorite Bowen items are the Blob and Avalanche (two of my favorite characters); Sauron, who is beautifully sculpted; the MODOK full statue, which is extremely detailed; and the latest piece from Bowen Designs, the full statue Mojo, which is one of the best pieces they’ve ever done.

Believe it or not I used to have almost twice as many pieces, but due to space constraints I recently downsized by selling off some characters I wasn’t attached too. I now display what I have in what I call my “Comic Nook.” Anyway, as you can see the collection has gotten quite extensive over the years. The pictures don’t even take into account the dozens of long boxes filled with comics, which are stacked high in a closet.

It’s been a blast piecing together this collection. I travel a lot, and I never tire of finding pieces in faraway comic shops (i.e. finding the Wrecking Crew four-pack at a small comic store for $175) or trading with other collectors from around the world. Regarding the latter, earlier this year I traveled to Australia for work and took 12 busts with me to trade with a guy from Sydney. That is how I acquire The Warriors Three, Beta Ray Bill, Odin and a few others busts. Each piece really has its own story, which is what makes the collection so special to me.

Anyway, let me know what you think. I can be reach on Twitter @ChadAHolloway.

If you’d like to see your collection featured here on Robot 6, here’s what you need to do:

1. Take some photos and save them as jpgs.
2. Write up a little something about your collection.
3. Send them to me in an email. Please put the text into an email and attach the images as separate files; don’t embed them into a Word doc. Uploading them to Dropbox or a similar service also works.
