Hot on the heels of Stretch Armstrong’s move from Universal Pictures to Relativity Media comes news from Variety that another Hasbro property, Candy Land, has jumped the Universal ship for Sony Pictures. But that’s not all: Adam Sandler’s Happy Madison production company is looking to bring the board game to life — with Sandler starring.
The game itself first appeared from Milton Bradley in 1949. Ever since, kids and adults alike have been traversing Gum Drop Mountain and the Candy Cane Forest and meeting folks like Gramma Nutt, King Kandy and Lord Licorice. The premise — children running through this crazy land trying to be the first one to reach the end — seems wide open for interpretation.
Sandler’s no stranger to kid-oriented films, even ones with fantastical elements, with Click and Bedtime Stories in his filmography. The film also seems to have potential for plenty of cameos from his pals. Who do you think should play which iconic characters from the game?
