It’s that time of year again, when fanboys’ and fangirls’ dreams turn into real-life limited edition convention sketch covers and con-exclusive action figures. The San Diego Comic-Con International is kicking off in just a few short days, and once again we can safely say that it’s bigger than ever! It’s literally so big that to attend without having any idea of what’s going on might lead to vertigo and fits of dizzyness, so CBR News is pleased to provide you with our traditional SDCC Preview!

A special note to any exhibitor wondering why they aren’t listed below – we have a second list coming up shortly picking up from the “O”s onward. 12 GAUGE

12 Gauge Comics blasts into Comic-Con International, packin’ more heat than ever before! The stable of talent locked-and-loaded at booth #2547 includes 12 Gauge members Brian Stelfreeze, Jason Pearson, Cully Hamner, Doug Wagner and Keven Gardner—but that’s just a start! Scheduled signings include the creative team from the “Occult Crimes Taskforce”: Rosario Dawson, Tony Shasteen and David Atchison. They’ll be joined by “Sidekick’s” Paul Jenkins and Chris Moreno, “Dust’s” Paolo Parente and mink, “The Ride’s” Dexter Vines, and writer/artist Tomm Coker announcing his new 12 Gauge horror project!

American Mule Entertainment is currently publishing the official “Public Enemy”comic book series based on the legendary hip-hop band starring Chuck D, and Flavor Flav. American Mule is celebrating their ten year anniversary while Public Enemy celebrates their 20th and they are both touring the globe promoting the comics and new cd’s. Located in booth #2049, Archaia Studios will be offering the newest issues of “Mouseguard” for sale at their booth, not to mention their other titles, “Starkweather,” “Okko” and more. David Petersen, the creator of “Mouseguard,” will be available for signings, as will the rest of the Archaia creators, and the publisher will be a presence at a variety of panels as well.

ASPEN COMICS

Aspen Comics, publishers of “Fathom,” “Soulfire,” “Shrugged” and “Iron and the Maiden” will be setting up shop at booth #2321. They will be offering the world premiere of the new action-adventure series “Iron and the Maiden” with the release of “Iron and the Maiden” #1 San Diego Comic Con Exclusive Jam Sketch cover. Aspen will also be releasing the “Aspen Splash” 2007 San Diego Comic Con Exclusive Swimsuit book.

Comic legend Bill Sienkiewicz will have a San Diego exclusive sketchbook available at the BillSienkiewiczArt.com booth (Booth #2419) at the San Diego Comic-Con July 25th-29th.

The Bill Sienkiewicz 2007 Sketchbook will include 24 pages of all-new artwork and a full-color cover for $40. This sketchbook will be ava6ilable only at the San Diego Comic-Con and will be sold on a first come-first served basis.

Blue Dream Studios will be located at booth #1947 for the duration of the show, and will be offering copies of their new title, “Pet Robots,” for sale as well as two collectible figurines based on characters from their award winning “The Dreamland Chronicles.” Drawings will be held daily where fans can win a signed copy of every book (“The Dreamland Chronicles,” “Pet Robots,” “Ed’s Terrestrials,” “The Lab,” and “PSI KIX”), as well as one each of the collectible figures, featuring an original sketch by Sava.

After one hell of an active year for Active Images, it’s time to celebrate at this year’s Comic-Con International: San Diego (July 26-29, Booth #2106)!

DC COMICS

DC Comics will be at the Con this week, bringing with them virtually their entire editorial staff as well as creators by the fistful. Their entire signing schedule can be found online here. There’s always a long line or ten in the DC booth for signings, previews and freebies, so be sure to plan accordingly!

DRAWN & QUARTERLY

Miriam Katin, Joe Matt, Guy Delisle, and James Sturm are D+Q’s guest artists at San Diego this year. They’ll be on various panels, as well as signing at our booth (#1529).

Dwight T. Albatross and Hot Seat Entertainment announce their upcoming, independently published ‘zine’ entitled “Dwight T. Albatross Presents: Blinky’s,” to be available at 2007’s San Diego Comicon International. Wikipedia describes Albatross as follows:

“Dwight T. Albatross is the irate, often intoxicated friend of Eric Powell who has made many appearances in the comic’s letter comics, as well as in person at the 2006 Comic Con. Albatross is never afraid to speak his mind and often keeps the Machiavellian madness of Eric Powell in check. Dwight had been arrested for destroying issues of “The Goon” in retribution for his unjust termination at the hands of Powell.

FANGORIA COMICS

THE HERO INITIATIVE FINANCIAL PANEL

On Saturday, JULY 28, from 6:00-7:00 pm, don’t miss our second annual financial panel, The Hero Initiative: I’m Supposed to Retire on This?! in Room 30CDE. When you’re a professional in comics, you are in charge of your own destiny, including paying your taxes and funding your retirement. We’ll have four Comic Con exclusives:

Additionally, IDW will be debuting a number of much-anticipated new releases at this year’s Comic-Con (July 26-29 at the San Diego Convention Center) – all of which also bridge the gap between comic books and the moving pictures of film or TV. Among them are:

– Comic-Con attendees will be the first to see artist Ben Templesmith’s first go-it-alone “30 Days of Night”project with the release of “30 Days of Night: Red Snow”-just before the original “30 Days of Night”story hits movie theaters in October.

– “30 Days of Night” co-creator Steve Niles will be previewing his new 30 Days of Night title, “Beyond Barrow,” with art by industry legend Bill Sienkiewicz. Niles will also be appearing alongside Templesmith on the “30 Days of Night” movie panel and signing autographs at the IDW booth.

– Rock-legend Gene Simmons’ son Nick Simmons, who is the breakout star of “Gene Simmons Family Jewels” on the A&E Network,will debut “Nick Simmons’ Skullduggery,” written and illustrated exclusively by Nick.

– Copies of an exclusive “Beowulf” promo comic book will preview the coming weekly miniseries, which is inspired by the Paramount Pictures, Warner Bros., and Shangri-La Entertainment movie that hits theaters this November.

At San Diego Comic Con International 2007 NEC Press will be celebrating the release of The Tick’s 20th Anniversary Special Edition #1! Making signing appearances at the NEC/Tick Booth (#1807) will be nearly two dozen artistic contributors to this very “SPECIAL” comic book. Each writer or artist is scheduled to sign for at least ONE HOUR. This is a once-in-a-lifetime event, so come by and visit us at Booth 1807 to be part of Tick history in the making!
