Sam Raimi Resurrecting ‘The Grudge’

Sam Raimi’s Ghost House Pictures is getting back into The Grudge game, Deadline reports. The Evil Dead director is set to produce the horror reboot.

Based on the Ju-on series of Japanese horror films created by Takashi Shimizu, U.S. franchise debuted in 2004 with The Grudge (Shimizu’s own remake of Ju-on: The Grudge), which grossed $187 million worldwide, and led to two less successful sequels. The franchise revolves around the idea of “the grudge,” a curse that comes about when a person dies experiencing intense rage. The curse takes human shape and seeks revenge on whoever happens to be around.

Raimi not only produced the original U.S. remake, but his brother Ted also had a part in the film, so this will be familiar ground for the filmmaker. Jeff Buhler, who adapted Clive Barker’s Midnight Meat Train, is working on the script.
