If you have harsh words for Sony's most recent try at the "Spider-Man" franchise, then Sally Field just might share your opinion. The Academy Award-winning actress, who played Aunt May in 2012 and 2014's "Amazing Spider-Man" films, spoke bluntly about her involvement in the franchise on Monday's installment of "The Howard Stern Show." When asked if she liked "Amazing Spider-Man," Field revealed why she took on the role.

"Not especially," said Field of whether or not she liked "Amazing Spider-Man." "It's not my kind of movie. But my friend Laura Ziskin was the producer, and we knew it would be her last film, and she was my first producing partner, and she was a spectacular human."

When asked how much thought she put into the role of Aunt May, she answered, "Not a great deal." She elaborated, saying: "Because it's really hard to find a three dimensional character in it, and you work it as much as you can, but you can't put ten pounds of shit in a five pound bag."

Stern then theorized on why that is, saying that Field was playing a supporting character to the film's superhero lead -- a mask-wearing lead that's "all CGI, special effects." Of Field's role, Stern said, "You come in and you prop up Spider-Man once in awhile. It's like playing the wife at home." Field agreed with this assessment, saying "Exactly."

Sony's attempt to reboot the Spider-Man franchise with 2012's "Amazing Spider-Man" and 2014's "Amazing Spider-Man 2" failed with critics and at the box office. This led to a deal between Marvel Studios and Sony to share the character, which has led to a new version of the character (played by Tom Holland) to be included in the upcoming "Captain America: Civil War."
