After a brief jog in place, the upcoming remake of Logan’s Run is once again full speed ahead, this time with actor Ryan Gosling and director Nicolas Winding Refn by its side.
A reimagining based more on William F. Nolan’s 1967 novel than on the 1976 film, the upcoming Logan’s Run has had a number of directors attached, including Bryan Singer, Joseph Kosinski and, most recently, Carl Erik Rinsch (who left the production in November to direct the Keanu Reeves samurai epic 47 Ronin).
But now, according to The Hollywood Reporter, production is again moving forward, with producers Joel Silver and Akiva Goldsman prepping the director’s chair for Refn (Drive, Bronson). He’ll reteam with his Drive star Gosling (The Notebook, Blue Valentine), who just closed a deal to play the eponymous Logan.
Logan’s Run takes place in a dystopian future where people are condemned to execution upon reaching a certain age. Those who attempt to escape their fate are deemed Runners and are hunted down by executioners known as the Sandmen. As a Sandman, Logan himself becomes a man on the run when he joins with an underground group of Runners.
