Russell Crowe has confirmed he'll play Dr. Jekyll, "Fellow of the Royal Society," in Universal Pictures' "The Mummy," cautioning that the reboot is “designed to seriously scare the shit out of you.”

The Oscar winner stars opposite Tom Cruise in director Alex Kurtzman's action-horror film, which kicks off the studio's new interconnected Monsters Universe. "The Mummy" features Sofia Boutella in the title role, as a wronged ancient queen awakened in the present day, where she unleashes terror.

Talking with Collider, Crowe praised Kurtzman and the production team, saying, "How they’ve pulled all of this stuff forward into a contemporary world and how they’re building it out from there, and how all of the different characters interweave into each other’s stories, it’s fantastic."
