No sooner had Lucasfilm announced Donald Glover as the new Lando Calrissian than an entirely logical rumor surfaced about the plot of the Han Solo "Star Wars" spinoff.

Borys Kit of The Hollywood Reporter reveals he's been told by two sources that the still-untitled 2018 film will tell how that card player, gambler and scoundrel Lando lost the Millennium Falcon to a young Han, played by Alden Ehrenreich.

It's an obvious storyline, perhaps, given the film's focus on Han's early years. It's also sure to please longtime fans of the franchise, who were first teased with the Millennium Falcon's backstory in 1980's "The Empire Strikes Back." We learned then that Lando was the ship's previous owner, but he lost the ship "fair and square" to Han ("Star Wars: The Force Awakens: The Visual Dictionary" confirms it was in a game of "Corellian Spike" sabacc).

That said, it's also a tale that the film pretty much has to tell: If we're given a young Han and a young Lando, but we don't see how the Millennium Falcon changed hands, the "Star Wars" faithful would be terribly disappointed.

There's no way at this point to know whether the rumor is true, of course, but it is obvious. It would almost certainly also be a relatively small part of the larger plot.

Directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller, the Han Solo film arrives May 25, 2018.
