If there's any truth to this new "Deadpool 2" rumor, we may have some bad news for Stephen Lang, Dolph Lundgren and Ron Perlman. Oh, and Keira Knightley of course.

In the latest episode of "Meet the Movie Press," Mashable.com film reporter Jeff Sneider floats the possibility of "Friday Night LIghts" star Kyle Chandler playing the Marvel Comics hero Cable in the Fox sequel.

Cautioning listeners to "take this with a gigantic grain of salt, Sneider insists Chandler's name actually has been circulating for months. "I don't know if he's interested in that kind of thing," he added, "I'm just saying that's the name that's been out there."

Sneider also offered up a potential contender for the "scene-stealer" role of Domino: "Halt and Catch Fire" actress Mackenzie Davis, who appeared in "The Martian" and has a part in the upcoming "Blade Runner" sequel. He noted, however, that rumor may not be as strong as the one involving Chandler.

While the 50-year-old actor is 6-foot-1, he's not exactly what most fans picture when they think of Cable, the hulking mutant cyborg from an apocalyptic future. "Deadpool 2" writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick said in April they're looking for a "physically imposing" actor with "strength, gravitas, a purposefulness that Deadpool doesn't have."

Addressing other Cable speculation, Executive Producer Simon Kinberg was quoted earlier this week as saying, "I've seen rumors from about everybody from Arnold Schwarzenegger to I can't even remember. We haven't cast him is the truth."

Directed by Tim Miller and starring Ryan Reynolds, the "Deadpool" sequel is targeted for release in 2017.
