Meet C2-B5, a new (if familiar-looking) droid that will make its debut in December in "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story."

The Imperial astromech droid was introduced Wednesday in the latest episode of Lucasfilm's "The Star Wars Show."

"As you may know, the Galactic Empire relies on astromech droids to maintain its machinery," explained host Peter Townley, "but unlike the Rebel Alliance, Imperial technicians do not grant their droids independence and subject them to frequent memory wipes to keep them subservient."

Speculation is that this droid will either have or develop a unique personality. Fans are already theorizing that the astromech will be a mole for the Rebellion, secretly passing  information in hopes of defecting from the Empire. They're pointing to C2-B5's obvious resemblance to "Star Wars" favorite R2-D2, who you'll recall was the one trusted with keeping the Death Star plans safe in "Star Wars: A New Hope."

This isn't the first droid character we've learned will play a part in the new "Star Wars" film, as the "Rogue One" trailer introduced K-2SO, voiced by Alan Tudyk of "Firefly" fame.

Directed by Gareth Edwards, "Rogue One" stars Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Riz Ahmed, Mads Mikkelsen, Alan Tudyk, Jiang Wen and Forest Whitaker. The film arrives in theaters Dec. 16.
