Robert Kirkman and Paul Azaceta's "Outcast" has officially been ordered to series by Cinemax, a HBO sibling network, for 10 episodes with no known premiere date.

Kirkman, whose hit series "The Walking Dead" enjoys critical success on AMC, will pen the pilot episode and executive produce, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Based on Kirkman's Skybound series, "Outcast" follows Kyle Barnes, a man who suffered from possession all throughout his childhood. As an adult, he seeks answers for his condition, but the answers he finds are much larger than himself.

Patrick Fugit is on board to play Barnes. Philip Glenister will co-star as a West Virginian preacher named Reverend Anderson.

Image Comics' "Outcast," which was announced as a television drama before it went to print, was picked up by Cinemax in November 2013 after a multiple-network bidding war.

Kirkman is joined as executive producer by Chris Black, Sharon Tal Yguado, Sue Naegle and David Alpert, who also works on "The Walking Dead." Adam Wingard directed "Outcast's" pilot episode.

"'Outcast' is an ambitious series and Adam Wingard has directed a powerful pilot. I am very proud of the work that Robert, Sharon and team have put together," said FIC president and CEO Hernan Lopez in a statement.

"Outcast" is Kirkman's third project headed to the small screen, alongside "The Walking Dead" and "Thief of Thieves," which is in development at AMC. He also has a television spinoff of "The Walking Dead" in the works.
