Under the terms of the deal, Kirkman and Skybound will develop television content to debut exclusively on Amazon's Prime Video, which is seeking to expand its horror, fantasy and sci-fi programming.

Skybound is home to Kirkman's own comic books, including The Walking Dead, Invincible, Thief of Thieves and Outcast, as well as other titles like Manifest Destiny, Witch Doctor and Kill the Minotaur. A multi-platform company, Skybound is also a producer of The Walking Dead, Fear the Walking Dead and Outcast television series, and has its own digital and interactive divisions.

“At Skybound Entertainment we strive to tell the best stories in the most unique and creative ways in an effort to always break new ground,” Kirkman said in a statement, released this morning. “A forward-thinking company like Amazon is the perfect home for us. Their new foray into genre fiction has us at peak optimism for what can be accomplished during this unprecedented partnership."

News of the partnership arrives just four days after Netflix announced its acquisition of Millarworld, the comics imprint created by Mark Millar.
