Beverly Hills, 90210 alum Shannen Doherty will guest star in the Season 4 premiere of The CW's Riverdale -- "Chapter Fifty-Eight: In Memoriam" -- which will honor series star Luke Perry following his sudden death earlier this year. Doherty's involvement was announced during the Riverdale presentation at Comic-Con International in San Diego by showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa.

Of course, Perry and Doherty were co-stars on 90210, playing the beloved characters of Dylan McKay and Brenda Walsh, respectively. However, Perry and Doherty's association goes far beyond the fan-favorite '90s teen drama, with the two having maintained a close personal friendship over the past three decades.

According to Aguirre-Sacasa, Doherty appearing on Riverdale is "something that Luke wanted to happen since Season 1." And the two long planned to bring her into the fold in some capacity. Aguirre-Sacasa continued, "They were such good friends and when we were putting together this tribute episode, we wanted to make it as special as possible, so we asked Shannen to do a pivotal, super-emotional role. She read the script and immediately said 'yes.' It's very impactful."

Returning to The CW on Wednesday, Oct. 9 at 8 p.m. EST, Riverdale stars KJ Apa, Lili Reinhart, Camila Mendes, Cole Sprouse, Madelaine Petsch, Casey Cott, Mark Consuelos, Skeet Ulrich, Marisol Nichols and Madchen Amick.
