When The CW originally cast actor Ross Butler in the role of Reggie Mantle on precisely what happened. And now, thanks to TV Line, we know the actor that will be replacing Butler when Riverdale returns for its second season next — Charles Melton.
Melton is set to recur on the second season of Riverdale as Reggie Mantle, who is set for a bigger story arc next season as Archie’s rival, his traditional role in the comic books. The actor, who is still a relative newcomer, has previously appeared in Glee and American Horror Story.
“We talk about Reggie, everyone talks about Reggie, and we all very much want Reggie to be one of the fundamental characters that he deserves to be according to the digests,” Cole Sprouse, the show’s Jughead, told CBR at a press event last month before the recasting was announced. “The truth is, the antagonizing nature of Reggie within the show would be a wonderful, wonderful balance for Archie’s narratives. Obviously, we want to see more. We all want to see more.”
As of right now, not much is known regarding the second season of Riverdale, however, showrunner and Archie Comics’ Chilling Adventures of Sabrina writer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa hasn’t ruled out a guest appearance from Archie favorite Sabrina the Teenage Witch.
Riverdale concluded its first season on Thursday, and has been renewed by The CW for a second season. Riverdale stars K.J. Apa as Archie Andrews, Lili Reinhart as Betty Cooper, Camila Mendes as Veronica Lodge, Cole Sprouse as Jughead Jones, Madelaine Petsch as Cheryl Blossom, Ashleigh Murray as Josie McCoy and Casey Cott as Kevin Keller.
