Riverdale has cast Betty Cooper's mysterious brother Chic for the upcoming second season of the CW drama.

As viewers may remember, it was revealed in the Season 1 finale that Betty's mother Alice became pregnant in high school, and gave her infant son up for adoption. Now, years later, he'll debut on Riverdale about midway through the season.

According to TVLine, Chic will be played by actor/musician Hart Denton -- a relative newcomer to acting -- who's been added to the series as a recurring guest star.

Like most of the characters on Riverdale, Chic is rooted in Archie Comics history, although as a fringe figure. Introduced in 1963 in Little Archie Mystery #1 as Betty's older brother, the teenage Chic (real name Charles) was typically on hand to help the younger kids out of a fix. He and sister Polly were integrated into Archie Comics continuity in the 1980s, although they were rarely seen -- although Chic certainly had a good reason: He was a secret agent for the United States government.

Denton's Chic Cooper is among a wave of additions to Riverdale's second season, which will also introduce Mark Consuelos as Veronica's father Hiram Lodge and Graham Phillips as her bad-boy ex-boyfriend Nick St. Clair.

Returning Oct.11 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW, Riverdale stars K.J. Apa as Archie Andrews, Lili Reinhart as Betty Cooper, Camila Mendes as Veronica Lodge, Cole Sprouse as Jughead Jones, Madelaine Petsch as Cheryl Blossom, Ashleigh Murray as Josie McCoy and Casey Cott as Kevin Keller.
