Archie Andrews has a secret, and that secret may have something to do with the death of Jason Blossom. A new promo for The CW's "Riverdale" reveals some tension between Archie and his best friend Jughead, and it seems to boil down to the death haunting their small town.

"A kid is dead, Archie," Jughead snaps at Archie in short teaser, "And she's telling you not to say anything."

Judging from the way the promo is cut, Jughead is referring to Ms. Grundy, with whom Archie had an affair over the summer. The teaser offers a bit more insight into this warped student-teacher relationship, as Grundy entrusts Archie with keeping the secret about their summer affair. However, this trust seems to run a bit deeper than that, as Jughead's mysterious statements suggests that both Archie and Grundy know more about Jason Blossom's death than meets the eye. Nevertheless, we won't know for sure until "Riverdale" premieres on The CW next month.

Additionally, the promo hints that things between Archie and Jughead aren't going so smoothly. Jughead appears to be genuinely angry at Archie for not telling anyone what he knows. Whatever this secret is, though, Jughead seems to be in on it. The trailer also cuts to a few shots of Jughead peering conspiratorially through doorways. After all, according to the teaser's tagline, "The deeper you go, the darker the secrets."

“Riverdale” sets the well-known characters of Archie Comics into a subversive, surreal “Twin Peaks”-like setting. The show will explore the themes of love, family, high school and a tragic death, in what appears to be a much less kid-friendly take than typical Archie fare. It’s also executive produced by Greg Berlanti, who’s also the driving creative force of The CW’s “The Flash,” “Arrow,” “Supergirl” and “DC’s Legends of Tomorrow.”

Starring K.J. Apa as Archie Andrews, “Riverdale” will debut Thursday, January 26 at 9 pm on The CW. The series also stars Cole Sprouse as Jughead Jones, Camila Mendes as Veronica Lodge, Lili Reinhart as Betty Cooper, Ross Butler as Reggie Mantle and more. “Breakfast Club” alum Molly Ringwald will also recur as Archie’s mother Mary.
