When "Riverdale" begins, Archie Andrews will do whatever it takes to become a better musician -- even if that means pursuing music lessons with the teacher he had an affair with over the summer. It shouldn't come as a surprise, then, that he also approaches Josie and the Pussycats -- Riverdale's It band -- for a little help. According to stars KJ Apa and Asleigh Murray, that kicks off something of a rivalry between the two.

Asked if he could describe the relationship between Archie and Josie, Apa said, "He really admires the Pussycats and Josie and her musical talent, because he's an aspiring musician and he wants to get better as well, and he kind of tries to start hanging out with her, but she doesn't really… like in the pilot, you can kind of see that as well. She gets a little bit warmer to Archie, but -- other than that -- we don't have too many scenes with each other, but -- the few that we do -- it's been really great. She's awesome. I've got a feeling we're going to be working a lot together with the whole musical side of the show."

"Archie is definitely a threat to Josie," Murray added. "She is the big man on campus. She's the biggest fish in the pond, and then he comes around with his cute face and all the girls are falling all over him and he tries to kind of push in on some of my girls and I'm like, 'Uh-uh.' We kind of find a bit of middle ground, but there's definitely some animosity between the two of us."

Nevertheless, Apa has been enjoying the music on the show. "It's really good!" he shared. "We have great writers, and recording in the studio has been really cool."

"A lot of songs that are about what he's experiencing, whether it's with Grundy or the kind of battle between Archie and Veronica," he explained. "You hear it in the lyrics, what it's about, and he writes these songs, like each song has a different story and -- whatever episode it's in -- it'll play in a moment where it can relate to whatever's happening in the scene."

Starring K.J. Apa as Archie Andrews, “Riverdale” will debut Thursday, January 26 at 9 pm on The CW.
