Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker director J.J. Abrams hints that fans may see a live-action version of Ahsoka Tano in the new film.

Japanese outlet Sora News sat down with Abrams ahead of the new Star Wars film's premiere and dove into what ending the Skywalker Saga was like and how the director handled co-writing the screenplay this time around. As the interview came to a close, however, Abrams also offered an interesting tease. After stating that his favorite character is Han Solo, the director asked the interviewer the same question. When Ahsoka Tano was given as an answer, Abrams said this: "Hmmm, Ahsoka, huh? Well then you’ll probably want to watch closely during The Rise of Skywalker."

Abrams quickly ended the interview, leaving the interviewer stunned and providing no further details. Given the phrase "watch closely," it's safe to assume Ahsoka won't be featured in a prominent way. But just as quick nods to characters from Star Wars Rebels were included in Rogue One, it seems Rise of Skywalker may offer fans the first live-action look at the fan-favorite Jedi.

Ahsoka Tano, the Padawan of Anakin Skywalker, appeared throughout the animated Clone Wars, set between the second and third prequel films. She then returned for Rebels, which took place not long before Rogue One and A New Hope. An appearance in Rise of Skywalker would prove she's still alive long after the fall of the Empire.

Directed and co-written by J.J. Abrams, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker stars Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Kelly Marie Tran, Joonas Suotamo, Billie Lourd, Keri Russell, Anthony Daniels, Mark Hamill, Billy Dee Williams and Carrie Fisher, with Naomi Ackie and Richard E. Grant. The film arrives Dec. 20.
