There's nothing worse than getting bird crap on your shield.

According to Variety, "Rio 2" barely squeaked by "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" at the North American box office on Friday.

The sequel to the 2011 animated film brought in $12 million, just enough to beat the $11.9 million "The Winter Soldier" made. "Rio 2" is now expected to take the top spot at the box office this weekend, as the trade said it's on track to make $44 million, while the Marvel film could land at $41 million.

So far the sequel to "Captain America: The First Avenger" has brought in $117.6 million in North America.

Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" stars Chris Evans, Sebastian Stan, Scarlett Johansson, Anthony Mackie, Robert Redford, Samuel L. Jackson, Toby Jones, Hayley Atwell, Emily VanCamp, Frank Grillo, Georges St. Pierre and Maximiliano Hernandez.
