Director Ridley Scott will begin shooting "Prometheus 2" in January. According to the latest issue of Total Film (via SciFied), the film will enter production alongside Neill Blomkamp's "Alien 5," so that Scott -- who will executive produce Blomkamp's vision -- can keep the film series' mythology from contradicting.

"X-Men Apocalypse" star Michael Fassbender is also attached to star in the film. Reportedly, "Prometheus 2" will see multiple David androids as played by Fassbender.

Scott has spoken about the project in past interviews, explaining that it will "reintroduce a fresher form of alien" and start "getting away from gods and dragons and shit... [The original Alien] is the definitive dragon and he's a motherfucker. The alien's real, which is why it's probably one of the scariest monsters in film history. So with 'Prometheus 2' what I’m trying to do is reintroduce a fresher form of alien in the third act."

Written by Jack Paglen and Michael Green and also starring Noomi Rapace, Prometheus 2 is scheduled for release in 2017.
