Knowledge Waits is a feature where I just share some bit of comic book history that interests me.
I thought it would be fun to look back at classic Riddler appearances and see if people could figure out Riddler's riddles as well as Batman and Robin!
I'll post the riddles first and then after a spoiler warning, I'll then post the answers!
1. In Riddler's first appearance in "Detective Comics" #140 (by Bill Finger, Dick Sprang and Charles Paris), there is a surprising lack of actual RIDDLES in the story, but here's one...
2. Riddler was back just two issues later! Here's a new riddle from "Detective Comics" #142 (by Bill Finger, Dick Sprang and Charles Paris)...
3. The Riddler was then gone for over a decade before showing up again in "Batman" #171 (by Gardner Fox, Sheldon Moldoff and Joe Giella). It opened with the Riddler offering up a riddle to the prison warden...
4. The Riddler then proved his identity to Batman and Robin with a riddle...
5. The Riddler then challenged Batman and Robin again...
6. The Riddler was at it again...
7. And then one more time...
(He also then tied all of the riddles together sort of for another riddle, but that was way too weird to list).
8-11. Finally, "Batman" #179's Gil Kane/Murphy Anderson cover had FOUR riddles right on the cover!
